School of thoughts


School of thoughts divide by 3 :

  • cognitivitism
  • behaviorism
  • humanism
Cognitive domain - The cognitive domain involves knowledge and the development of intellectual skills (Bloom, 1956). This includes the recall or recognition of specific facts, procedural patterns, and concepts that serve in the development of intellectual abilities and skills.

Behaviorism ( scholars)

A reward includes : 
  • all positive
  • negative
  • neutral reinforcement to a behavior
Scholars statements :
  1. assertive teachers do not punish student. students are taught to accept the consequences for their own action (center,1988)
  2. classroom management techniques are an important focus point ( Guthrie, 1993)

Humanistic 
- Psychoanalysis was focused on understanding the unconscious motivations that drove behavior while behaviorism studied the conditioning process that produced behavior.


Humanistic school of thought:
  • character
  • efficacy
  • making choices
  • human needs
  • individuality
  1. Humanistic psychology focused on each individual's potential and stressed the importance of growth and self-actualization
  2. It also focused on fundamental and uniquely human issues, such as self-identity/ death/ aloneness/ freedom and meaning.

Strong points of humanistic psychology :

- emphasizes the role of the individual, gives more credit to the individual in controlling & determining their of mental health.

- takes environmental influence into account, credits the environment influence on our experience.

- continues to influence therapy, education, healthcare.

- helped remove some of the stigma attached to therapy, and made it more acceptable for normal, healthy, individual to explore their abilities & potential through therapy.
